The Catalina Real-time Transient Survey has so far discovered over six hundred significant
optical transients.
Here we report on seven probable SN discoveries made with CSS images between UT dates
Jan 20th and Feb 19th. The objects have the following parameters:
CSS090219:095526-012821 | 2009-02-19 UT 06:31:00 | RA 09:55:25.71 | Dec -01:28:21.3 | Mag 18.4 | Type SN |
CSS090216:100910+075434 | 2009-02-16 UT 08:46:52 | RA 10:09:10.10 | Dec 07:54:34.4 | Mag 18.7 | Type SN |
CSS090214:102503+175821 | 2009-02-14 UT 09:27:34 | RA 10:25:03.36 | Dec 17:58:21.3 | Mag 19.3 | Type SN |
CSS090213:083642+091405 | 2009-02-13 UT 06:17:24 | RA 08:36:41.68 | Dec 09:14:05.4 | Mag 17.7 | Type SN |
CSS090213:030920+160505 | 2009-02-13 UT 03:45:55 | RA 03:09:19.79 | Dec 16:05:05.3 | Mag 16.7 | Type SN? |
CSS090201:123216+085745 | 2009-02-01 UT 11:43:55 | RA 12:32:15.80 | Dec 08:57:45.4 | Mag 19.1 | Type SN |
CSS090120:101435+263642 | 2009-01-20 UT 11:33:36 | RA 10:14:34.97 | Dec 26:36:42.2 | Mag 19.3 | Type SN |
All candidates have been detected in CSS or P60 images on multiple nights. To remove contaminants such as AGN (cf. CFHT-COVET ATEL#1936), SN candidates are required to exhibit multi-magnitude rises above possible sources (observed in past deeper DSS, PQ, CSS and SDSS images), be well covered by past observations, show no signs of previous variability and not match radio sources seen in surveys such as NVSS and FIRST.
CSS090219:095526-012821 is associated with an SDSS galaxy with u,g,r,i,z mags (23.2, 21.7, 21.5, 21.6, 21.9).
CSS090216:100910+075434 appears to be associated with an SDSS galaxy with mags (23.9, 22.2, 21.5, 21.2, 23.3).
It is possible that host galaxy is in fact SDSS J100911.91+075414.7 with mags (17.9, 16.3, 15.5, 15.1, 14.81) at z=0.071.
CSS090214:102503+175821 is associated with an SDSS galaxy with mags (18.9, 17.0, 15.9, 15.5, 15.1) and z=0.120.
Given the host redshift it is likely that the object is around peak magnitude.
CSS090213:083642+091405 is associated with an SDSS galaxy with mags (22.4, 20.9, 20.5, 20.9, 20.0).
CSS090213:030920+160505 is associated with a ~23rd magnitude object seen in the NOAO deep ecliptic survey. If
this is a supernova, its peak brightness was more than six magnitudes brighter than its host galaxy (like 2008hp).
CSS090201:123216+085745 is associated with an SDSS galaxy with mags (23.2, 22.6, 22.8, 22.7, 23.0).
CSS090120:101435+263642 is associated with an SDSS galaxy with g,r,i,z mags (22.6, 22.5, 22.0, 22.6).
