Following the Fermi/LAT detection of the high gamma-ray state of the high-redshift (Z=2.19) blazar 0917+449 (ATEL #1902), we performed an optical photometric observation with the "KANATA" 1.5-m telescope at Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory.
Our preliminary analysis shows that the blazar 0917+449 was V=17.7+/-0.1 on 20.6 (UT) Jan 2009. The V-band magnitude of the object was obtained with a comparison star located at RA=09:21:16.65, Dec=+44:40:43.7 (V=13.146; converted from the SDSS g and r mag.). According to several published catalogs, the object seems to be variable between V=17 and 19 (e.g., V=19.0 SIMBAD, V=17.4 NOMAD, and the transformed V mag is 17.95 from the SDSS catalog). Thus, no significant increase is found in the optical flux.
