We report on observations of the CSS transient CSS080924:040630+145214 first
announced by Mahabal et al. (ATEL #1778). We obtained an optical spectrum
(range 3450-6400 Angstroms) on October 22.42 UT using the Kast spectrograph on
the Lick 3-m telescope. The spectrum shows that the transient is a type-Ia
supernova, about a month past maximum brightness. Cross-correlation with a
library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID;
Blondin & Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that it is most similar to the
type-Ia SN 1994M at 34 days past maximum.
