Subjects: Supernovae

We have detected a likely supernova in CSS images from 24 Sep 2008 UT. The object has the following parameters:

CSS080924:044524+182425 2008-09-24 UT 11:17:06 RA 04:45:24.00 Dec 18:24:25.1 Mag 17.5 Type SN

The object is near the edge of galaxy LCSB L0250N (z=0.0155). No transients are present in earlier epochs of CSS imaging including data taken on or before the 9th Mar 2008 (to mag ~19.5), or prior PQ and DSS images to mag ~22.

Further to ATel #1734, CSS080923:011149+143826 was independently discovered by ROTSE-III and has now been spectroscopically confirmed as a type-Ia supernova (CBET1513).
