The VERITAS telescope array has detected strong flaring in TeV gamma-rays from the AGN Mrk421. Measurements last night (UT 20080502) in preliminary analysis show a TeV peak luminosity approaching ten times the Crab Nebula. This observation was triggered by the monitoring program of the Whipple 10m at Mt Hopkins. VERITAS will continue to observe this source tonight, multi-wavelength observations across the electromagnetic spectrum are very much encouraged.
