Possible Supernova from the Catalina Sky Survey

We have detected an optical transient in Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images obtained at the
Mt. Bigelow 0.7m Catalina Schmidt Telescope on 13 Feb 2008 UT. The transient is unresolved,
and at the following J2000 coordinates:

The object is near the edge of a galaxy SDSS J024606.79-073803.7 (z=0.03, g ~ 15.2, r ~ 14.4,
(m-M) = 35.45). The transient is consistent with a supernova at this distance.
The CSS discovery observations consist of four images spanning ~ 24 minutes.
The object is also clearly seen in images taken on 7 February UT when it was V ~ 17.3.
It was not present in earlier CSS images including those taken on 13 January UT.
The transient is not seen in archival PQ or SDSS images covering this location.
Spectroscopic follow-up is requested.
