Following the reports for an unprecedented outburst of VER 0521+211 in X- and gamma-rays (Atel#13520, ATel#13522) we observed this blazar in the optical with the 60cm telescope of Belogradchik Observatory, Bulgaria. The object was observed in VRI bands on Feb 25.91 (UT), i.e. shortly after the reported outburst. Our preliminary analysis shows R=15.05 (0.05), which is even somewhat fainter than usual. If keeps that way this event might become another "orphan" flare, visible in X/gamma-rays but not in the optics. Further multiwavelength monitoring is encouraged.
Belogradchik Observatory is operated by the Institute of Astronomy and NAO, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This study was partially supported by the Bulgarian Science Fund through grands KP-06-H28/3 (2018) and KP06-PN38/4 (2019).
