We obtained a spectrum of SN 2020ad with the SPRAT spectrograph (resolution R ~ 350; Piascik et al. 2014) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (LT; Steele et al. 2004) on 2020 Jan 3.28 UT.
The spectrum shows a prominent, broad Hα feature, which displays a P-Cygni profile, accompanied by lines arising from Hβ, the Fe II 42 multiplet, along with Na I D and/or He I 5876 Å. Matching with supernova templates using GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008) shows that SN 2020ad is a Type II supernova several weeks after explosion. The host galaxy IC 4351 has a redshift of z = 0.0089 (NED).
