We report that our analysis of the archival data of ASCA and BeppoSAX
observations revealed a weak X-ray source at position consistent with
that of X-ray transient IGR J16358-4726 (IAUC # 8097 ).
The source was seen in the ASCA observation on Feb.26, 1999 at the position:
R.A.=16h35m53s, Dec.=-47o25.3' (equinox 2000, position uncertainty 0.8').
Preliminary analysis of the source spectrum shows that it has high value of
photoabsorption, neutral hydrogen absorption column density could estimated
to be ~1e23 cm^-2. The observed source flux is approximately 1e-12 erg/s/cm^2
(2-10 keV). The source was also seen in the BeppoSAX observation on Aug.8,
1999 at the position: R.A.=16h35m55s, Dec.=-47o26.0' (equinox 2000,
position uncertainty 0.8'). Preliminary spectral analysis shows high
photoabsorption consistent with ASCA results and the flux ~5e-13 erg/s/cm^2
(2-10 keV). Two other analyzed observations
- Aug.6, 1998 and Sep.16, 1998 have not allowed to detect the source with
the upper limit ~1e-13 erg/s/cm^2
