We obtained a spectrum of the transient AT 2019pih with the SPRAT spectrograph (resolution R ~ 350; Piascik et al. 2014) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (LT; Steele et al. 2004) on 2019 Sep 4.08 UT. The spectrum shows narrow Balmer emission lines (Hα, Hβ, Hγ, Hδ), along with numerous Fe II emission lines, including those of the 37, 38, 42, 48 and 49 multiplets. We also detected Na I D which displays a P-Cygni profile.
We also obtained a spectrum of the transient M31N 2019-09a (PNV J00423716+4116454 , ATel #13071) with the SPRAT spectrograph on 2019 Sep 4.11 UT. This spectrum shows very broad Hα and Hβ emission lines, with the FWHM of Hα measured at approximately 8000 km/s.
In summary, these spectra confirm that M31N 2019-09a is nova in M31 and AT 2019pih is an Fe II-type nova in M31.
