We report on X-ray and UV follow-up observations of the recently identified short period systems MGAB-V248 (294.69313 +58.69828) and MGAB-V249 (322.73629 +44.34622). These objects were identified by Gabriel Murawski on 2019-05-27 with orbital periods of 27.9 mins and 39.3 mins, respectively.
We obtained 1ks Swift observations for each system on 2019-06-04 (MGAB-V248) and 2019-06-05 (MGAB-V249).
No X-ray emission from the objects was detected in the 0.3-10 keV band.
UVOT observations show that both systems are blue, with the following magnitudes in the Vega system:
MGAB-V248
V= 17.89 +/- 0.19
B= 17.77 +/- 0.09
U= 16.44 +/- 0.06
UVW1= 15.60 +/- 0.05
UVM2= 15.40 +/- 0.04
UVW2= 15.38 +/- 0.05
MGAB-V249
V= 15.70 +/- 0.06
B= 15.30 +/- 0.03
U= 13.98 +/- 0.03
UVW1= 13.51 +/- 0.04
UVM2= 13.94 +/- 0.04
UVW2= 13.47 +/- 0.03
The absence of X-ray emission, blue colors, and short orbital periods suggest an AM CVn nature for both systems. We encourage spectral observations.
We thank the Swift team for approving and executing our ToO requests.
