We obtained SALT (+RSS) spectroscopy of AT 2019ahd (= ATLAS19car; ATel
#12449) on 2019 January 30.0 UT, covering the wavelength range 350-930 nm. The
spectrum shows a reddish continuum with narrow H-alpha and H-beta at z =
0.0035, consistent with the redshift of NGC 3423. The H-alpha profile has a
broader base with FWHM ~= 2000 km/s and a narrower core with FWHM ~= 400 km/s
(approaching the instrumental resolution). There is strong Ca II H & K absorption from the host galaxy, but Na I D is weak.
Our spectrum is posted on the Transient Name Server AT 2019ahd page.
