Spectroscopy of Optical Transients From the PQ Survey

We obtained low resolution spectra of the six strong optical transients in the Palomar-Quest (PQ) survey reported by Drake et al. (ATel #1234), using the Double Spectrograph at the Palomar Observatory's 200-inch Hale telescope, on the nights of 2007 Oct 10 and 11. The spectroscopic identifications are as follows:
PQT 071008:224527+103932 = SN Ia similar to SN2000cx around max, z = 0.046
PQT 071008:230627+095342 = SN Ia about 1 month past max, z ~ 0.07
PQT 071010:015849-022627 = possibly a SN Ia before the maximum
PQT 071009:024105-033814 = SN Ia similar to SN 1999aa about 9 days before max, z ~ 0.135
PQT 071011:031515-034914 = QSO, z = 1.26
PQT 071010:034520-012111 = Probable blazar, spectrum shows a featureless continuum
Supernova typing was done by R. Thomas (LBNL).

Photometric follow-up was done using eStar telescopes (http://www.estar.org.uk/) through the VOEventNet (http://voeventnet.caltech.edu), and the results will be reported separately. Further observations are strongly encouraged.
