We obtained a spectrum of the transient AT2019bm (ATLAS19aaw) with the SPRAT spectrograph (resolution R ~ 350; Piascik et al. 2014) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (LT; Steele et al. 2004) on 2019 Jan 6.26 UT.

The spectrum shows AT2019bm is a young Type Ia supernova, with a redshift consistent with that of the nearby galaxy UGC 6929 (z = 0.021; NED). Comparing the spectrum to templates via SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007) shows good matches to a normal Type Ia supernova (e.g. SN1994D, SN2003du) at least 9 days before peak brightness.
