On UT 2018 May 25.3 we obtained an optical spectrum (range 370-800 nm) of AT2018bxs (=ATLAS18ppz), discovered by ATLAS (Tonry et al. 2011, PASP, 123, 58) with the 2.3m Bok telescope (+ Boller & Chivens spectrograph) on Kitt Peak, Arizona. Cross-correlation using GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; https://gelato.tng.iac.es) shows that AT2018bxs is consistent with a young type-Ia supernova a few days before maximum at a distance of z=0.034. The classification spectrum can be found on the IAU Transient Name Sever: https://wis-tns.weizmann.ac.il/object/2018bxs.
