We report the classification of two optical transients (AT2017hta and SN 2017hig) from
spectra obtained with the DEep Imaging Multi-Object Spectrograph (DEIMOS) on the
Keck II 10-m telescope. We also confirm the classification of SN 2017hca (ATel #10889).
The classifications were performed with SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024).
Survey Name | IAU Name | UT Obs. Date | z | Type | Phase | Notes
kait-17df | AT2017hta | 2017-11-16.21 | 0.006 | II | +20d | (1)
Gaia17cow | SN2017hig | 2017-10-14.65 | 0.045 | Ia | pre-max | (2)
ATLAS17lsr | SN2017hca | 2017-10-14.65 | 0.0134 | II | --- | (3)
(1) The spectrum matches those of several Type II SNe a few weeks after explosion. The redshift is derived from SNID.
(2) The spectrum matches those of several normal Type Ia SNe a few days before maximum light. Adopting a redshift z = 0.045 from the assumed host galaxy 2MASX J10331713+1624254, the expansion velocity measured from the minimum of the Si II 635.5 nm line is ~14,100 km/s.
(3) We confirm this is a Type II SN as reported in ATel #10889.
