We obtained a spectrum of the candidate supernova ASASSN-17em/AT2017cts (ATEL #10241), using the SPRAT spectrograph mounted on the robotic 2m Liverpool Telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos observatory (La Palma). The spectral range is 400-800 nm and the dispersion is 9.2 Angstrom/pixel.
Observations started on 2017 Apr 4.132 (UT). Classification with SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) indicates that this is a normal type Ia supernova a few days before maximum light at a redshift around 0.020.
The spectrum is available on the Transient Name Server.
