Further to ATel #10072, we report an additional discovery of a young Type Ia supernova from imaging on February 03.5, 2017 UT with the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) at CTIO during the recent “Deeper, Wider, Faster” program observations.

The transient DWF17a5068 was observed with the Robert Stobie Spectrograph on the South African Large Telescope (SALT) on February 8.0 UT with 3 x 600s exposures. The spectrum is well fit by a Type Ia supernova at redshift z=0.046 +- 0.001, classified 7-8 days before peak.

Name: DWF17a5068
RAJ2000: 13:30:51.556
DECJ2000: -31:45:39.50
Discovery date: 2017-02-03.5
Discovery magnitude*: 20.75 +- 0.04
Last observation day: 2017-02-07.5
Last observation magnitude*: 18.74 +- 0.03

*Magnitudes measured in the DECam g-filter images with forced PSF photometry with a negligible contribution of the host galaxy to the measurement; we compute the zero point by comparing measured magnitudes of stellar sources against the Gaia catalog (G filter). Measurements obtained comparing the magnitude of stellar sources against the USNO-B1 catalogue (B filter) are on average Δmag∼1.0 fainter.
