LSQ16aiy/AT 2016blp was discovered on 2016 March 27.1 UT by the La Silla-QUEST survey (Baltay et al. 2013, PASP, 125, 683) at right ascension 10:56:05.54 and declination +14:29:25.1, 31" from the center of the galaxy CGCG 095-071 at V = 18.7 mag. It was also detected in pre-discovery images taken on 2016 March 25.1 UT at V = 19.2 mag, but it was not detected on 2016 March 23. We obtained a spectrum of this object on 2016 April 13.4 UT with the robotic FLOYDS instrument mounted on the LCOGT 2-meter telescope on Haleakala, Hawai'i. Using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find a good fit to the normal Type Ia SN 1994ae 6 days after maximum light at the redshift of the proposed host galaxy (z=0.060; SDSS DR5, via NED). The spectrum is available on the Transient Name Server.
