Swift/BAT detects a new outburst of the blazar Mrk 501

The Swift/BAT hard X-ray transient monitor has recorded a recent flux increase
from the blazar Markarian 501. In the 15-50 keV band, the source first rose
above 3-sigma detectability on 2013 July 17 (MJD 56490) and reached a peak of
0.009 +/- 0.001 ct/s/cm^2 (~40 mCrab) on July 22 before starting to decline
somewhat to 0.005 +\- 0.001 ct/s/cm^2 on July 23. The peak count rate is
comparable to the highest rate seen in the BAT monitor (43 mCrab on 2009
February 27).
