Optical spectroscopy (range 300-700 nm; resolution 0.6 nm) obtained on Dec 15.1 UT with the SOAR 4.1-m Telescope (+ GHTS) reveals that PSN J05012988-1343464 is a SN of type Ia. Good matches are found with several type Ia supernovae 7--10 days after maximum light, using GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383). While the redshift of this SN's host galaxy is unknown, matches with other Type Ia SNe are optimized if PSN J05012988-1343464 is at a redshift of z ~ 0.03.
