From images taken on 2012 June 21.27
with the TAROT La Silla telescope
we report the discovery of a
supernova candidate located at R.A. = 17h48m48.7s,
Decl. = -60o42'19.3" (equinox 2000.0),
which is offset of 17" W and 4" N from the
nucleus of ESO 139-28. The image was R filtered
and magnitude was R=14.7.
The presence of the candidate is confirmed
on images taken on 2012 June 24.27 with the
same telescope. R=14.6.
The candidate is not detected in an image
taken by TAROT on 2012 June 06.30 (limiting
magnitude R=17.9).
Using a distance modulus of 34.54 and a R
extinction of 0.2 mag provided by the NED
database, we find an absolute R magnitude
of -20.1 which means that the supernova
could be of type Ia, close to its maximum
of brightness.
