An Optical Transient from the Catalina Sky Survey

We have detected an optical transients in the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) obtained at the Mt. Bigelow
0.7m Catalina Schmidt Telescope between Jan 30 2008 UT. The transient is unresolved and at
the following J2000 coordinates:

CSS discovery observations consist of four images spanning approx 30 minutes.
Transient CSS080130:033055-251255 was mag ~16.7 in all images when detected and does not
match the location of any known object to ~21st magnitude in past CSS images and other
archival data. However, there is some evidence of a nearby object which may be associated.
Follow-up observations in Gunn-g and Gunn-r band were taken with the P-60 on 2008-01-31 UT 04:35 and showed that the transient was of similar brightness. Photometric and spectroscopic follow-up observations are requested.
