We report optical spectroscopic observation of supernova candidate ASASSN-16pd/2016jab (ATel #9898) using the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory on UT 2016-12-24.24. The target was discovered by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN; Shappee et al. 2014, ApJ, 788, 48). We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to identify the type and phase of the SN spectra.
The spectrum matches with SNe Ia-norm, few days before maximum. Narrow H_alpha emission is visible at z=0.021. The SNID estimated redshift (z=0.022) is consistent with this value.
