The Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, AN, 335, 841) reports the spectroscopic observation of AT 2016fmt discovered by Fabrizio Ciabattari of the Italian Supernova Search Project (ISSP) in NGC 606, who reports a discovery magnitude of 17.8 on UT 2016-08-28 02:52:48.
The observations were performed with the Asiago 1.82 m Copernico Telescope equipped with AFOSC (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm).
IAU Name | Host galaxy | Discovery (UT) | Discovery mag | Observation (UT) | Redshift | Type | Phase | Notes
AT 2016fmt | NGC 0606 |2016-08-28 02:52:48 | 17.8 |2016-08-30 23:56:52 | 0.03322 | II | young | (1)
(1) The low S/N spectrum shows a blue continuum with broad Balmer lines. This is a young Type II SN, in agreement with
the Transient Name Server (TNS) report of Liming Rui(THU), Xiaofeng Wang(THU), Tianmeng Zhang(NAOC), Junjun Jia(NAOC).
A match is found with the type II-P SN 1999gi a few days after the explosion. The redshift z=0.03322 as obtained from the Halpha emission of the host galaxy.
The classification was performed using the GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) tools. The Asiago classification spectra are posted at the website http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
