Optical spectra (range 350-760nm) of the supernova candidates ASASSN-16gy/AT2016cyx (ATel #9217) and ASASSN-16hc/AT2016czc (ATel #9223) were obtained on UT 2016 July 11-12 with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that ASASSN-16gy is a young Type II SN and ASASSN-16hc is a SN1991T-like Type Ia SN at maximum light. After correcting the spectrum of ASASSN-16hc for the redshift of its host galaxy (z=0.050972 via NED), we measure a Si II 635.5nm expansion velocities of 10800 km/s.
