Following the discovery of the Type IIP supernova ASASSN-16fq (= SN 2016cok; ATel #9091, #9093), we examined a 49.5-ks archival Chandra ACIS-S observation of the host galaxy M66 taken in 2008 March 31 to search for the X-ray progenitor. Within r=2 arcsec, no X-ray source was found at the position of the supernova. The nearest X-ray point source is about 12 arcsec from the supernova. Assuming an absorbed power-law with N_H=2.5e20 cm^-2 and a photon index of 1.5, we derived a 3-sigma 0.3-7 keV luminosity upper limit of 3.9e37 erg/s at 10 Mpc (from NED).
