We obtained a spectrum of nova candidate M31N 2016-01a (PNV J00422184+4102035; see CBAT TOCP) with the SPRAT spectrograph on the 2m Liverpool Telescope (Steele et al. 2004) on 2016 January 19.83 UT.

The spectrum shows strong Balmer emission and numerous Fe II lines (including multiplets 27, 37, 42, 49 and 74), with Na I (D) and O I (7774 Å) emission lines also present. This spectrum confirms that M31N 2016-01a is a classical nova eruption in M31 and a member of the Fe II spectroscopic class.
