Swift observed the broad-lined Ic SN2016G (ATel #8528) starting on 2016-01-11 13:55:51 UT.
The XRT observed SN2016G for 3 ks, obtaining just a 3sigma upper limit of 1.3x10-2 cts s-1 (0.3-10 keV). For a distance of 26.8 Mpc, assuming a Galactic column density of 1.3x1021 cm-2 (based on LAB data) and a power law photon index Gamma=2, this translates to an upper limit on the 0.3-10 keV unabsorbed luminosity of 6x1040 erg s-1.
The UVOT observed SN2016G with all its filters. The SN is detected in the reddest UVOT filters, probably due to the high Galactic absorption.
Magnitudes in the AB systems (errors are at 1sigma level) and 3sigma upper limits are reported below:
V=17.72+/-0.17 (157 s)
B=19.04+/-0.25 (157 s)
U>20.19 (157 s)
W2>21.86 (629 s)
M2>22.12 (1480 s)
W1>21.07 (315 s)
