The Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, AN, 335, 841) reports
the spectroscopic classification of PS15cyk in UGC 12687. The target is supplied by the
Pan-STARRS Survey for Transients (see Huber et al., ATel #7153).
The observation was performed with the Asiago 1.82 m Copernico Telescope (+AFOSC; range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.35 nm).
Name | Earliest detection | Obs. Date UT | z | Type | Phase | Notes
PS15cyk | 20151125.30 | 20151202.79 | 0.020541| II | 1 month | (1)
(1) The spectrum shows the typical features of a Type II SN during the hydrogen recombination phase, and show
striking similarity with the Type II-P SN 1999gi about 1 month after maximum.
Along with the prominent Halpha with a P-Cygni profile, we clearly detect Hbeta, Na ID, Fe II, Sc II, and Ca II H&K.
The expansion velocity inferred from the position of the Halpha absorption is about 6800 km/s.
Classification was done with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID
(Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024). The Asiago classification spectra are posted
at the website http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it. Ã
