AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from an unidentified source, AGLJ1948-7906, found at Galactic coordinates (l,b)=(315.07, -29.29) deg (R.A., Dec.= 297.12 -79.09 deg, J2000), with a statistical 95% c.l. elliptical error region with major and minor axes of 0.70 deg and 0.45 deg, respectively. The roll angle of major axis from the north direction is 18.0 deg counterclockwise. There is an additional systematic uncertainty of order of 0.1 deg (95% c.l.).

Integrating from 2015-10-03 00:00 UT to 2015-10-06 00:00 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields the detection of the source with a flux of (200+/-46) x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV) at a significance level of 6.7 sigma.

Just outside the AGILE error ellipse there are two additional sources: the Fermi-LAT sources 3FGL J1935.2-7924c and 3FGL J1925.8-7826.

This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode.

Multifrequency observations of sources in the AGILE error ellipse are strongly encouraged.
