The MAXI/GSC nova alert system triggered a bright uncatalogued X-ray transient source at 14:54 on 2015 September 23. Using data obtained in scan transits from 20:23 on 2015 September 22 UT to 22:37 on September 23 UT, we obtain the source position at
(R.A., Dec) = (12.982 deg, -73.668 deg) = (00 51 55, -73 40 04) (J2000)
with a 90% C.L. statistical error of 0.25 deg and an additional systematic uncertainty of 0.1 deg (90% containment radius). The position lies 0.35 arc-deg from RX J0052-7319, and is marginally consistent with RX J0052-7319 if the systematic uncertainty is taken into account. The Swift/BAT data (http://swift.gsfc.nasa.gov/results/transients/weak/RXJ0052.1-7319/), however, do not show any flux increase. Thus, we tentatively name the source MAXI J0051-736.

The X-ray flux averaged over the scan transits was 16 +- 4 mCrab (4-10keV, 1 sigma error). The 4-10 keV flux has rapidly increased since the beginning of September 23, reaching about 40-50 mCrab at the end of September 23.

We encourage followup observations with multi-wavelengths to reveal the nature of the source. The latest light curves and other information will be placed at:
