We obtained an optical spectrum (range: 398-686 nm; resolution 0.3 nm) of ASASSN-15la on 2015 June 12.218 UT with the Hiltner 2.4 m Telescope (+OSMOS) of the MDM Observatory on Kitt Peak, Arizona. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to perform a cross-correlation with a library of SN spectra. We find that the spectrum of ASASSN-15la is most consistent with normal Type Ia SN 1 week before maximum light. After correcting for the host galaxy redshift (z=0.030), we measure a Si II 635.5 nm expansion velocity of -15200 km/s.
