We report the spectroscopic confirmation of ASASSN-15fr (ATel #7281) with observations obtained with the 1.82-m Copernico Telescope of the Asiago Astronomical Observatory (+ AFOSC; range 340-820 nm, resolution 1.3 nm).

A spectrogram of ASASSN-15fr obtained on March 27.91 UT suggests that it is a Type Ia supernova. Adopting for the host galaxy 2MASX J09202045-0738229 a redshift z = 0.033436 (Jones et al. 2009, The 6dF Galaxy Survey Data Release 3 as downloaded from http://www-wfau.roe.ac.uk/6dFGS ), a good match is found with the 1991T-like SN 1998bu (Jha et al. 1999, ApJS, 125, 73) a couple of days before the B-band maximum. The expansion velocity, as deduced from the position of the Si-II 635.5nm absorption line, is about 11800 km/s.

The Asiago classification spectra are posted at this website: URL http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it. The classification was made using the GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) tools.
