AGILE is detecting increased gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from a source positionally consistent with the flat spectrum radio quasar BZQ J0447-0322 at redshift z=0.774, with coordinates R.A.: 71.977917 deg, Dec.: -3.378333 deg (J2000).

Integrating over 48 hours from 2015-03-05 03:00 UT to 2015-03-07 03:00 UT, a preliminary maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at a significance level of about 5 sigma and a flux F(E>100 MeV)=(2.5+/0.9) x 10-6 ph/cm2/s.

This is the first time that gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from the BZQ J0447-0322 blazar region is reported.

This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode. Multifrequency observations of the blazar source are strongly encouraged.
