We report discovery of a new transient, internally designated as iPTF14gnj, at RA(J2000)=00:52:26.99 and Dec(J2000)=+40:27:02.4 with a magnitude of g=16 on Oct 11.45. No object was found at the same location in images taken on Oct 10.46 and earlier with 5-sigma limiting magnitudes of about 20 in g-band. The transient is located 109.5' east and 49.1' south away from the center of M31. So iPTF14gnj is possibly a M31 nova or a galactic CV.

The photometry is calibrated with the SDSS catalog.
