The Swift BAT detected a new transient X-ray source (Palmer et
al. ATEL #546), first detected by the BAT on 30 June 2005. At 21:20
UT on 1 July 2005 this source was uploaded to Swift as a Target of
Opportunity. The XRT began observing this target in Manual State in
Photon-Counting mode (count rate about 35 cps, which is highly
piled-up), but was switched to Image mode and then put back into
Windowed Timing mode. From the Image Mode image we obtain an on-board
position for the source of:
RA(J2000) = 17h 53m 28.3s
Dec(J2000) = -01d 27' 09.3"
The estimated uncertainty is 6 arcseconds radius (90% containment).
The source was extremely bright, with count rates up to at least 200 cps
(average count rate was about 130 cps).
