Following the discovery and rapid classification of SN 2013dy (CBET
3588) as a very young, nearby (D ~ 13.5 Mpc) Type Ia supernova, we
triggered STIS UV observations with the Hubble Space Telescope under
the Cycle 20 program "Understanding the Progenitor Systems, Explosion
Mechanisms, and Cosmological Utility of Type Ia Supernovae" (GO-13286;
PI Foley). The first epoch of HST UV spectroscopy is scheduled to
occur on 21 July 2013 at about 11:00 UT. There will be a total of 10
epochs of HST spectroscopy over the span of a month. We encourage
additional follow-up observations at all wavelengths.
