We obtained a low resolution spectrum (390-915 nm) of PSN J18250198+2731537
(CBAT TOCP) on Apr 12.9 UT with the HFOSC instrument on the Indian Astronomical
Observatory's 2-m Himalayan Chandra Telescope. The spectrum exhibits hydrogen
Balmer P Cygni lines, indicating that it is a Type II supernova. Using SNID
(Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), a best match is found with the
type II-P supernova SN2004et with a phase of +12, at a redshift of 0.016
(consistent with redshift of host galaxy). Adopting a recession velocity of
4762 km/sec for the host galaxy (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, Third Reference
Catalogue of Bright Galaxies, Version 3.9), the minimum of the P-Cygni
absorption for H alpha indicates an expansion velocity of about 9300 km/sec.
