Following the report on gamma-ray flaring activity from S5 1217+71 = 2FGL J1219.2+7107, a z=0.45 QSO, detected by Fermi LAT (Ciprini et al., Atel #4885) and the optical follow up by MASTER (Atel # 4889). We have observed this object at NIR wavelengths. Our photometry for JD 2456370.87359 yields the following values: J = 15.467 +/- 0.04, H = 14.699 +/- 0.05 and Ks = 13.854 +/- 0,05. These values are about one magnitude brighter than the ones listed by the 2MASS survey. Observations were carried out with the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Observatory operated by the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (Mexico), equipped with the instrument CANICA a NIR camera.
