After the recent reports on flaring activity of the FSRQ PKS 0502+049, z= 0.954, in gamma ray and radio wavelengths, (Atel #4858 Atel #4868), we carried out NIR observations of this object on March 7th, 2013 (JD 2456358.699491). At this time, our measurements yielded the following values: J = 15.097 +/- 0.03, H = 14.032 +/- 0.05 and Ks = 13.411 +/- 0.06. These values are about 2 magnitudes brighter than the photometric values listed in the 2MASS point source catalogue for this object. This brightening is consistent with flaring activity at all wavelengths. Observations were carried out with the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Observatory operated by the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (Mexico), equipped with the instrument CANICA a NIR camera. We strongly encourage further multi-wavelength coverage
