Discovery of an Apparent Nova in M31

We report the discovery of apparent nova in M31 on a co-added 1350-s R-band CCD frame taken on Aug. 9.088 UT with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov.

The new object designated PNV J00425909+4116118 is located at R.A. = 0h42m59s.09, Decl. = +41o16'11".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 166.5" east and 3.3" north of the center of M31 (see link to discovery image below).

The following R-band magnitudes were obtained using the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov:

2012 Aug. 6.027 UT, [19.7; 9.088, 17.16 +/- 0.09.
