We report the discovery of a Type II SN on June 24.39 (when the variable was
at magnitude R = 18.8 and detection of the same on June 08.40), as part of
the La Silla-QUEST (LSQ) transient survey. Photometry is calibrated to the
USNO-B1.0 catalog. The source's position is RA = 00:13:43.34, Dec = -00:27:58.4 (J2000).
A near-infrared spectrum (range 830-2500 nm) of LSQ12dcl was obtained
on June 26 UT (JD 2456104.95) with the Folded-port Infrared Echellette
(FIRE) spectrograph on the 6.5-m Magellan Baade Telescope. The
spectrum shows that LSQ12dcl is a type-II supernova with developed
hydrogen Paschen lines. The near-infrared spectrum at rest frame,
using the redshift for the presumed host galaxy (SDSS
J001343.81-002735.7) of z = 0.031, is similar to that of SN 2012aw.
