AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from an unidentified source near the Galactic plane, AGL J1037-5708, of Galactic coordinates (l, b) = (285.5, 1.1) ± 0.5 deg (95% stat.) ± 0.1 deg (syst.).

Integrating from 2010-11-27 21:18 UT to 2010-11-30 14:08 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at a significance level larger than 5 sigma, and a flux above 300 x 10E-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).

We notice that the HMXRB source 4U 1036-56 is within the AGL J1037-5708 error box.

This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in spinning mode.

Multifrequency observations of the AGL J1037-5708 error box are strongly encouraged.
