AGILE is detecting intense gamma-ray emission from the source AGL J2330-5036, at the position (R.A., Dec.) = (352.55, -50.60) deg (J2000); (l, b) = (330.82, -61.90) +/- 0.8 deg (95% stat.) +/- 0.1 deg (syst.), consistent within the error circle with the flat-spectrum radio quasar BZQ J2329-4955 (PKS 2326-502).
Integrating from 2010-11-01 00:00 UT to 2010-11-05 03:00 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at a significance level above 5 sigma and a flux of (220 +/- 70) x 10^-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).
A shorter integration, starting from 2010-11-03 00:00 UT to 2010-11-05 04:00 UT, yields a detection at a significance level around 5 sigma and a flux of (300 +/- 100) x 10^-8 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV).
This source is positionally consistent with the First Fermi-LAT Catalogue source 1FGL J2329.2-4954 (Abdo et al. 2010, ApJS, 188, 405) and with the source reported in the ATel #2783.
This measurement was obtained with AGILE observing a large portion of the sky in a spinning mode.
Multifrequency observations of the AGL J2330-5036 error box are strongly encouraged.
