Subjects: Optical, Cataclysmic Variable, Transient

We have checked the available archival images of the optical transient in Auriga OT 071948.9+405332 reported in ATel #2878 by MASTER team (Shumkov et al.) and have identified it with the faint blue star SDSS J071948.92+405331.8 (u=21.64, g=21.83, r=21.51, i=21.53, z=21.98) which is also visible on Blue Palomar plate taken on 1997 Apr. 08. The outburst amplitude (about 5m) and fast raise reported in ATel 2878 (by more than 1m in 5 hours) strongly suggest the dwarf nova outburst caught on the early stage. SDSS colors are also consistent with the cataclysmic variable in quiescence.

The finder charts of the new variable (color-combined DSS and SDSS) with the position of OT marked with dashes are available at http://hea.iki.rssi.ru/~denis/J0719+4053-finders.jpg

The photometric time series are desirable to search for possible superhumps, to measure the period and to determine the variability subtype.
