As part of a regular spectroscopic follow-up run of candidate transients of the Palomar Transient Factory , we obtained a spectrum of PTF10bt -- also announced earlier today as SN2010B (see CBET#2115, discovery by Masaki Tsuboi). This observation was performed with the Double Beam Spectrograph on the Palomar 200-inch telescope at UT 2010 Jun 9.47. Running Superfit (Howell et al. 2005), we find that the spectrum best matches a Type Ia supernova about six days after maximum light (similar to SN1990N and SN1992A). The first detection by the Palomar 48-inch (as part of the PTF Dynamic cadence survey) was on 2009 Dec 30.576 UT.
