We obtained low resolution spectra of the optical nova candidate M31N 2009-10a in M 31 (RA=00 45 14.04, Dec=+42 04 38.8, J2000) discovered by Koichi Itagaki on images taken on 2009 Oct. 6.51 UT and confirmed by T. Yusa on images taken on Oct. 4.21 and by Koichi Nishiyama and Fujio Kabashima on images taken on Oct. 3 (for details see http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/CBAT_M31.html#2009-10a ).

The spectrum of N2009-10a in M31 has been taken on 2009 Oct. 9.91 UT with the Russian 6-m telescope (BTA) equipped with the SCORPIO spectral camera. The spectral range 374-783 nm, resolution 1.25 nm. During the observations we measured the star brightness: 17.81 +/- 0.07 (R-band),18.33 +/- 0.09 (V-band), and 18.59 +/- 0.10 (B-band) on 2009 Oct. 9.85 UT.

M31N 2009-10a shows a typical spectrum of a FeII group novae with a strong forest of FeII emission lines. The Balmer emission lines are the strongest features in the spectrum. NaI D1,2 and CaII H,K are detected. Equivalent widths of H-alpha and H-beta lines are equal to 62 nm and 15 nm respectively. H-alpha line width corrected for spectral resolution is FWHM = 1520 km/s, H-beta and FeII (492.4 nm and 501.8 nm) lines width is 1335 +/- 15 km/s. The full width at zero intensity in H-alpha is 5400 km/s. The heliocentric radial velocities of these two hydrogen and two FeII lines is 45 +/- 20 km/s.
