We obtained low resolution spectra of the optical nova candidate N2009-09a in M31 (RA=00 42 26.08, Dec=+41 04 01.0, J2000) discovered by Koichi Nishiyama and Fujio Kabashima, http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/CBAT_M31.html#2009-09a, on CCD frames taken around Sept. 3.752. In ATEL#2189 M.Henze et al. constrained the time of outburst of this optical nova candidate in M31 by date 2009 September 2.078 with a magnitude of 17.8.
The spectrum of N2009-09a in M31 has been taken on 2009 Sept. 18.18 with the Russian 6-m telescope (BTA) equipped with the SCORPIO spectral camera. The spectral range 374-783 nm, resolution 1.27 nm. During the observations we measured the star brightness: 18.21 +/- 0.03 (R-band) and 19.02 +/- 0.05 (V-band), Sept. 18.006. We have also the star brightness estimates taken with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov Observatory: on Sept. 5.913, 17.5; 6.893, 17.9; 8.857, 18.1 in R-band with uncertainty 0.1 - 0.15 mag.
M31N_2009-09a shows a typical spectrum of a "FeII" group slow novae with a strong forest of FeII emission lines. The Balmer emission lines are the strongest features in the spectrum. Equivalent widths of H-alpha and H-beta lines are equal to 69.7 nm and 24.2 nm correspondingly.
H-alpha line width corrected for spectral resolution is FWHM = 730 km/s, H-beta line width is 625 km/s. The heliocentric radial velocities of H-alpha is -510 km/s and that of H-beta is -570 km/s. The full width at zero intensity in H-alpha is 3550 km/s.
