I report the spectroscopic classification of TCP J17064645-3528079. I obtained its optical spectrum on 2024-09-09.764 UT by the SpUpNIC (Crause et al, 2016) mounted on the 1.9m telescope at the Sutherland Observatory, South African Astronomical Observatory, using the grating 6 (wavelength coverage 4500-7000Å, resolution R~3000).

As reported to CBAT, TCP J17064645-3528079 was originally discovered on 2024-09-09.4363 UT at 11.4 mag (unfiltered). There is no obvious counterpart in deep photometric surveys. My spectrum normalized by its continuum show the Balmer and He I lines with P Cygni profiles. The absorption minimum of this P Cygni profile in Hα is located at ~-1400 km/s. Combining these spectral features and its red color reported in CBAT, I conclude that this object is a new classical nova.
